Yoga is an ancient philosophy developed more than 3000 years ago in Northern India. The word ‘yoga’ means ‘union’ or ‘joining’, and can be thought of as a way of balancing the body, mind and emotions through the practice of postures, breathing techniques and relaxation.

You may wonder what exactly this idea of ‘union’ means in reality. Perhaps you have seen yogis at the gym or on television doing things with their bodies that you know would just not possible for you. But yoga doesn’t mean that you need to tie yourself into a pretzel. That is not the point of yoga. Yoga is about awareness of body and mind.

Yoga really is for everyone – men, women, young, elderly, fit or not.

That painful hip, sore neck and shoulders, and that general stiffness are not necessarily a part of life. Neither are weak knees and legs, nor rounded shoulders. Sometimes, also, we beg for a break from the constant thoughts that invade our mind like a chattering monkey. So can yoga deliver us from these problems?
